What Is the Theme of Psalm 1?

Psalm 1 serves as the gateway to the Psalter, contrasting two ways of life: the righteous who delight in God’s law and the wicked who follow worldly counsel.

The Two Paths

  • Way of the Righteous: “Blessed is the man… his delight is in the law of the LORD” (vv. 1–2). Like a tree by streams, he bears fruit in season.
  • Way of the Wicked: “They are like chaff that the wind drives away” (v. 4), lacking stability and ultimate purpose.

Practical Application

Meditate on Scripture daily; surround yourself with godly counsel; avoid toxic influences. Psalm 1 invites believers to root themselves in God’s Word, promising perseverance and prosperity under His care.
