Inspiration
Throughout this verse, Peter reminds us that we are not humbling ourselves under the authority of our human authorities, including those in authority within the church. Rather, we humble ourselves under God's guidance. He will, at the appropriate time, exalt us. Humility is a statement that our mighty God can be trusted to give us all the glory and recognition we deserve. A humble attitude contributes to a culture of peace and graciousness within the fellowship, whereas pride can disrupt the fellowship of believers and foster a discourteous attitude. Jesus Christ humbled Himself under the mighty hand of the Father. It was at the appropriate time that Jesus was raised from the dead and then was seated on the throne of His Father in heaven. Like Christ, those who humble themselves under the mighty hand of God by taking up their cross in the power of the Spirit will grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus and will be raised up to newness of life by God at the appropriate time. Thus, let us grow in grace here in this world, and in the world to come, we will be raised up with Christ on His throne.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Your Word is true, and I am grateful for what You have provided for me. It is my prayer that humility will fill me. Please help me develop graciousness of spirit and humility of heart. It is a blessing to see Christ's humility as an example. Let me strive to become more and more like Him in the days to come. Let me remain humble when I interact with others. In other words, I would like others to see a reflection of You, not of me. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
