We all hate being told what to do. We believe that as free moral agents we know what and when is right. We relish the freedom to do as we please, but we usually don’t do what is right. The inability to do right is a function of the fallen nature of man due to sin. We can all relate to the Apostle Paul’s plight in Romans 7:15. Often, we want to do what is right but end up doing the opposite due to the weakness of our sin nature. Sin has disrupted the correct order of the world and that is why rules are made, instructions are given to restore normalcy. Adherence to rules, commands or instructions ensures smooth running and increases efficiency and productivity. Many people see the God of the Old Testament as a tyrant who gives out commands and wants them to be carried out. However, God gives us these commandments for our good so that He can bless us as He has promised. The fulfillment of God’s promises is based on total compliance to His instructions. Just as disobedience is the root of the ills and evils in our society, partial or non compliance to God’s instructions attract grave consequences. Walking in obedience not only improves our relationship with God and others, it positions us for being blessed by Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the goodness and unending mercies that You have shown me. Thank You for making me a member of Your special family on the Earth consecrated and set apart to worship You. Your thoughts and plans for me are to bless and prosper me, not to fail me. Help me to follow Your commands in total obedience. I will seek Your instructions in everything I do so that I can walk in all the ways that You have commanded and planned for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Blessed App1 John 3:24
And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Blessed App1 Peter 1:14
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
Blessed App1 Samuel 15:22
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
