Inspiration
This verse emphasizes that love in marriage should reflect the sacrificial love Christ has for the Church. "However, each one of you must also love his wife as he loves himself" calls husbands to love their wives deeply, understanding that their love must mirror Christ’s self-giving nature. Love is not about self-fulfillment, but about serving and nurturing the other person. When a husband loves his wife as himself, he demonstrates care, protection, and commitment. This love is not dependent on external circumstances but is rooted in a commitment to the well-being of the spouse. Just as Christ gave Himself up for us, so too should husbands be willing to sacrifice for the good of their wives. In turn, wives are called to respect and honor their husbands, contributing to the mutual love and care that builds a healthy and strong relationship. This reciprocal love and respect form the foundation of a marriage that reflects God’s will and His perfect love for His people.
