John 1:8

Inspiration
It is clear from this verse that John the Baptist is not the promised Light himself but only a witness to it. In contrast to many popular teachers, the Baptist was not motivated by fame or fortune. His sole purpose was to point others to Christ, the true Light of all men, who illuminates darkness and brings Light to all who enter the world. The prophet John was a charismatic man who challenged the nation of Israel to repent. In the course of time, many people came to believe that John himself was the Light. However, John the Baptist was not the Light. The Light had been revealed to John by God, and he was chosen to bear witness to it. As a witness to the truth of the gospel, John attested to Jesus Christ as the true Light of the world. In truth, John was not the Light but the one who was sent by God to testify about the Light. Now that we have accepted Christ as our Savior, it is our responsibility to bear witness to the Light, just as John did. Jesus Christ is the true Light that illuminates everyone who enters the world. Through Christ's life within us, we are enabled to reflect the Light of His love and to share the glorious gospel of grace with others, even in a world surrounded by darkness.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and for sending Jesus into the earth so that He can be the Light of the world and the Savior of mankind. Please help me to walk in the light as He walks in the light, and to allow the light of His love to shine through me, so my life will be a true testimony to Him. Throughout my life, I pray that He may increase and I may decrease, so that He will be all in all in my life. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
