Inspiration
That they are incapable of providing for themselves solely on their own strength, goodness, or righteousness; however, Jesus states that they are blessed since they already possess the kingdom of heaven. Being poor in spirit is a corresponding attitude toward salvation. In the kingdom of heaven, the humble will reign rather than the arrogant. Therefore, the poor in spirit are blessed. In God's view, false righteousness based on human standards is unacceptable. As Christ taught, godly righteousness is based on a pure heart and a humble spirit - a heart that is in the right relationship with God. In order to achieve godly righteousness, one must maintain a correct and honest attitude toward themselves. As sinners, we must acknowledge that Christ is our Savior. It is impossible for us to please God through our own efforts. Instead, we must be empowered by Him in order to live a life that is pleasing to Him. As Christians today, it is important to recognize that such godly standards cannot be achieved through works of self-righteousness; instead, they can only be achieved by submitting to the inner workings of the Holy Spirit, who by grace corrects and conforms us to Christ's likeness and image.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You have given us Your Word that teaches all of Your children the truth. My faith in Christ should guide me rather than rely on my own merit. Please keep me from being arrogant. May You bless us with a poor spirit and teach us the importance of Your rule in our lives. Please help us to realize Your promise to enter the kingdom of heaven humbly. I pray that you will give me a humble heart and lead me in the path of godly righteousness and truth. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
