Verse
Hebrews 3:6
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
- Confidence
- Hope
- Faith
- Endurance
- Salvation
Inspiration
As the author of Hebrews points out, Jesus is a greater and higher example to follow than even Moses. In contrast to Moses, who was faithful in God's house and foretold many things, Jesus is the Son of God, the Creator, and the One who fulfilled these things. This letter emphasizes the importance of following Jesus, even above Moses. This relates to the author's conclusion in chapter 2, where Jesus is referred to as the ultimate example for us to follow. While this verse may seem to suggest that our eternal salvation depends on our commitment to the end, this is not true. If this was the case, Christ's finished work on the Cross would have been insufficient, and our salvation would depend on our commitment to the end. It is not our endurance that determines our salvation but rather our faith in Him. Rather than placing any confidence in the flesh, we are to place our trust in the finished work of Christ on the Cross. We can see from this verse that our endurance to the end is an outward demonstration of our already secured position in Christ to others. In the Christian faith, being able to prove everything becomes the tangible, verifiable evidence that we are truly God's family. In other words, it represents who we are as men and women who give honor to the God Who purchased us with His precious blood.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for creating the inspired book of Hebrews and the great lessons it contains. Thank You for indwelling me with the Holy Spirit, for making me a member of Christ's body, and for making me a part of the growing Household of God. You have blessed our lives and our homes through Christ's life and work. May my trust in Your Word of truth stand firm until the end, and I pray that I will not fall into carnality or legalism. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
