Inspiration
In this verse, Jesus' comment regarding the cloak and tunic is more abstract. In the event that a Christian loses something while sharing the gospel, whether through circumstances, hardship, or robbery, this should not lead to the Christian quitting the ministry and succumbing to fear. Regardless of the loss we suffer, we should still want salvation for our enemies. As Christ's discourse illustrates, whoever would become Christ's disciple must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow the Lord Jesus. It was not a message intended for those who were simply concerned about the things of this world. Jesus Christ's message was a teaching intended for those who sincerely wished to know and comprehend the things of God. While God is a God of justice who must punish all sin, He is also a God of love and mercy, kindness and compassion, long-suffering, and great goodness. As His children, we are encouraged to display the same godly qualities and mercy that He has shown to each of us who has been saved by grace through faith.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, with the world becoming progressively more violent, the love of many has grown stone-cold, and we are often tempted to judge, condemn, and retaliate against those who harm us. Please give me the grace to live as Christ did and to love others as He did. It is to Your glory and praise that I put this verse into action every day of my life and take up my cross and follow You. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
