Psalms 91:2

Inspiration
In this verse, the Psalmist depicts the Lord as both a refuge and a fortress, the place where people often return to in times of hardship or danger and where people are protected from attacks. In addition, the Psalmist proclaims the Lord to be his God and trusts in Him. In truth, Jesus Christ is the only person who can rightfully claim the Father as His refuge and fortress. However, He took the punishment for our sins and became our strong fortress, our everlasting refuge, and the rock of our salvation. The Psalmist, no doubt, was convinced of the great security the Lord provides. Therefore, his faith was credited to him as righteousness, allowing him to legitimately declare that he trusted God. God offers eternal security as the ultimate assurance. The Psalmist was inspired to write words that would point forward to Jesus Christ, Who shed blood for our transgressions and bore the sins of the world upon Himself. Thus, through those words, all those who place their trust in Him can be assured of His protection, comfort, and resurrection to a new life.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You have granted Jesus Christ the power to be fully God and yet live His life in total dependence on You. This is how You show all Your children how to live their lives with faith and trust in You as our Refuge, our Fortress. Father, sometimes as I face overwhelming life circumstances, I fail to come to You. However, I pray that from this day forward I will live as Christ did, in total dependence on Him, just as He did in total dependence on You. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
