Inspiration
In Scripture, vines and vineyards are often referred to, depicting God as one who plants and cares for His people's "vine." The context of this verse indicates that growth will occur. There is first a reference to barrenness, then to productivity, and finally to abundance. We are expected to progress spiritually in this manner. During this process, God removes and prunes the branches. To most believers, the concept of Jesus as the true vine is a very precious one. Since all Christians are taken from Adam and placed into Christ, we are all branches of the true vine. From the moment of rebirth, we are all in union with Him, and as branches, we share in His life both on earth and in the ages yet to come. As we recognize our privileged position in Christ, let us commit ourselves to abiding in Him, walking in spirit and truth, submitting to the Holy Spirit's leading in our lives, and willingly accepting the pruning knife of our Heavenly Father in order to yield more fruit, a greater quantity of fruit, and to the glory of God in the future.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please keep speaking to my heart and working on me until I discard bad habits and sins. Help me become a tree that bears abundant good fruit through words and actions. To Your praise and glory, I pray that I will bear much fruit. Please take away everything in my life that is not good and not fruitful, so that I may bear more fruit, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
